Haiphong (ˈhaɪˈfɒŋ )

a port in N Vietnam, on the Red River delta: a major industrial centre. Pop: 1 817 000 (2005 est)

In November 1946 the French opened hostilities, by shelling the northern port of Haiphong and killing 6000 Vietnamese people.
