1. countable noun If someone is given a blank check, they are given the authority to spend as much money as they need or want. ⇒ We are not prepared to write a blank check for companies that have run into trouble. 2. countable noun If someone is given a blank check, they are given the authority to do what they think is best in a particular situation. ⇒ He has, in a sense, been given a blank check to negotiate the new South Africa.
