Exclusions are specific events or circumstances where the insurance company has the
right to deny a claim. Punitive damages may only be assessed against an insurer when the insurer denies a claim without an arguable or legitimate basis. If an insurance company denies a claim, it refuses to pay a claim submitted by a policyholder.
