After the ex-dividend date, purchasers are no longer entitled to the dividend.
It is relatively common for a stock's price to decrease on the ex-dividend date by an amount roughly equal to the dividend paid.
The ex-dividend date is the date after the declaration of a dividend on which the buyer of a stock is
not entitled to receive the next dividend payment.
