Frequent shopper programs are becoming ubiquitous in retailing, although retailers seem unsure if they are
leading to higher loyalty, or to higher profits.
Nearly two-thirds of all US households believe it is important to shop in stores that
offer a frequent shopper program or loyalty card program.
A frequent shopper program is one that rewards customers for purchases made on multiple visits, and builds up
points entitling them to reduced prices and free items.
