Compared to higher-quality debt securities, junk bonds involve greater risk of default or price changes due to changes in credit quality
of the issuer.
Recent experience suggests that 10-15 percent of maturing junk bonds will default each year over that period.
Junk bonds are bonds with a high risk that they will not be paid back, but with the possibility
of a high yield.
