Instead of using a per claim maximum, most insurers write a lifetime limit on medical policies.
Approximately 55% of individuals with employer-provided health insurance are subject
to lifetime limits; the most common of which are $1 million and $2 million.
The lifetime limit of a health insurance plan is the maximum coverage that it offers, after which payment
stops, and the policyholder must pay all remaining costs.
