A peak load
is the maximum load on an electrical power-supply system.
There may be a loss between station or substation and translating device of 15 percent
during the 1 or 2 hours of the evening peak load in the winter months.
Unlike coal power stations, which can take more than 12 hours to start up from cold,
the hydroelectric plant can be brought into service in a few minutes, ideal to meet
a peak load demand.
