English translation of 'literatura'
feminine nounLiteratura de cordel is a type of literature typical of the north-east of Brazil, and published in the form of cheaply printed booklets. Their authors hang these booklets from wires attached to walls in the street so that people can look at them. While they do this, the authors sing their stories aloud. Literatura de cordel deals both with local events and people, and with everyday public life, almost always in an irreverent manner.
